Authors SL Roman have been interviewed by a bright young thing about their first historical romance they wrote together. One Year One Night was published in hardback by a U.S. publisher in 2024.

C.C. Gravehart who had studied on the creative writing course at Royal Holloway University in southern England met Sarah, one half of SL Roman by chance in Brighton, co-incidentally where the original unlucky boy at the heart of the OYON story was born.

The keen Instagrammer asked Sarah and Laura which aspect of their novel they would fight to keep if it was made into a film.

Laura argued for keeping how children suffered in WW2 Britain, particularly the evacuees. Sarah pledged that she would argue for keeping the character of the annoying jobsworth Mr Cribbles as he was so much a strong British character creature of that time.

C.C. Gravehart wanted to know how the co-authors had reacted to Queen Camilla describing the story of an unlucky boy and a teenage diary as a ‘remarkable achievement’. They were of course very pleased.

The interview can be seen at c.c.gravehart on Instagram. As well as Instagram, SL Roman gets publicity on Tiktok. There Sarah posted pieces to camera and short films about the thousands of book lovers who came to see their favourite writers at the Mouans Sartoux book festival in southern France.

Sarah was able to go to the festival near Cannes where the former French president Francois Hollande attended on the opening evening of the weekend-long event. He was there to talk about his new book ‘Unite’.

Meanwhile the authors are working on novel number 2 set in the same era with some of the same characters. This time their heroine Annie is working as a bomb chaser in London in the Blitz in 1940. She’s still in love with Remy but as he’s helping the French Resistance he keeps disappearing and sometimes with an elegant French lady.

It makes for absorbing work for Laura and Sarah who made great progress on a recent writers’ retreat week.
