American actor Alex Ryan Brown read excerpts from the historical romance written by Laura and Sarah under the pen-name SL Roman.
Tiktok users heard Alex introduce the characters of Annie, unlucky boy Ben, jobsworth Mr Cribbles and Harriet Mandeville.
The readings concentrated on the point in the story where the evacuees including Ben arrive at the fictional village of Millside.
The writers – full names Laura Meloni Bywaters and Sarah Onions often do their own promotion and in this case Sarah joined other writers to hear their work read to the biggest live audience so far. Sarah was one of two British authors with 2 American scribes and one Irish author who were present online at the reading.
The event was organised by Jessica Ward who’s on Tiktok at jessicaward_reads.
The Young Adult novel was published in America by Red Chair Press in 2024 and was praised by Queen Camilla for a ‘remarkable achievement’ in a private letter last year.
Meanwhile Laura and Sarah are writing their second novel based in the same historical era in London 1940 in the Blitz.
