The compliment came as One Year One Night was liked by more than 11k Tiktok folk. American actor Alex Ryan Brown brought the historical romance to life with his performance of a heartfelt story of an evacuee in WW2.
The session lasted two hours and included readings by other writers. SL Roman is otherwise known as Laura Meloni Bywaters and Sarah Onions and they chose the excerpts together, to be read aloud.
The other readings in the online session were of a more gritty nature so the listeners heard a wide variety of stories. The sessions are organised by Tiktok Events Manager Jessica Ward, supported by her mum Sue – known as readalongwithsue,on the digital platform. Sue worked in publishing and assesses manuscripts for publishers.
The reference to bestselling writer Catherine Cookson reflected her ability to turn ordinary life into romance though she rejected the label.
The scribe from northern Britain held the record of a U.K. author with the largest number of books borrowed in a public library for 17 years.
SL Roman have a way to go to match that and started much later after bringing up kids and – careers in education and journalism. But they are enjoying themselves and are halfway through their second historical romance, also set in WW2.
